How To Be An Awesome Leader

    By Carolyn Stevens | Communication, People Leadership, You As A Leader | 0 comment | 4 May, 2016 | 3

This snippet’s intention is to lift your awareness of two subtle yet crucial behaviours. When you focus on them, I mean really focus on them, you’ll be an awesome leader…

Whether you succeed or fail isn’t because you’ve pushed-to-get-the-numbers.

The Key to Your Success is Whether Your Team Members Are On-side or Off-side.

And the key determinant of which side they’re on is how you interact with them.

    It’s about:

      • The impact you have on how your team members feel.
      • The taste-you-leave-in-their-month.
      • How much they like you.
      • How much they trust you.
      • How much of a warm feeling you provoke in them.

And That Boils Down To How Much They Think You Care About Them

The two most critical interaction habits of you, as a leader, are:

—How you listen to your team members…

Listening to what they care about.
Listening to what they’re not saying.
    Listening to their fears.
Listening to them with the sole intent of understanding them.

—Whether you do what you say you’ll do 100% of the time…

Even if you don’t honour your commitment just once, people remember.

“He said he’d do xyz, but he doesn’t do what he says he’ll do” is not a comment you want people to say about you. But it’s one I hear a lot from the leaders I coach.

Not doing what you say you’ll do will brand you as a person who can’t be fully trusted.

How much do you trust someone who doesn’t honour their word?

    Your Action Steps

Imagine what your leadership world will be like when your team members are totally authentic and trusting of you. Their discretionary effort will soar!

Are you ready to nurture authenticity and trust by listening intensely and honouring your word 100%?

After all, you’ve spent a few years practising some of those destructive behaviours, right?

    That’s what awesome leaders do.

    Go build more of it!

Give me a yell if you’d like to talk about how coaching support would boost your progress along the path to being an awesome leader.

Carolyn’s authenticity and candour impressed me immediately
and her wealth of experience gave me complete confidence in her abilities.
She has helped me unleash my true ability and potential
by enabling me to enhance my self-awareness, confidence and assertiveness
and leverage these skills to be a more effective leader.”
