Leader Coaching

What leadership challenges are you facing?

I support leaders who are ready to take their next steps towards being a truly outstanding leader.

You’re probably employed by a medium or large organisation.

The industry isn’t important. (I’ve recently worked in health, financial services, manufacturing, hospitality, I.T., marketing, medical devices, mining, office equipment, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, services and government.)

You’ll be in a people leadership or functional leadership role.

You may have spent a number of years leading and want to try different approaches, or you may be new to leadership.

You’re receptive to exploring new options to produce different results.

My services aren’t for everyone. They’re for leaders who are ready to produce different results by taking a different approach to some things.

FaceTime, Skype and other communication channels mean that your location isn’t important.

Leaders who work with me have typically faced one or more of these challenges:

You have the potential to be a greater asset to your organisation.

Your performance is good and you’re ready for fine-tuning. You need help in figuring out which bits to work on, and what to work on first.

You want to enhance your people management and leadership practices.

Perhaps your team of direct reports isn’t being put to good use or you need to communicate more skilfully to develop rapport and trust with your team members. Or maybe you need to deal with conflict and poor performance more effectively.

You’re frustrated in your attempts to influence people.

You could be (unwittingly) resorting to aggressive or submissive behaviour. You may need to develop your abilities to get others to see your point of view.

You need to react differently to difficulties.

Too often your frustrations show. You may need to develop your emotional intelligence and react more appropriately to perceived challenges in order to receive more respect and elicit greater cooperation from others.

You and your manager have agreed you’re not making the most of your capabilities.

It’s common for leaders to be doing a fine job in some areas, and in others areas they need to do things differently.

What results can you expect from coaching?

Here's what you'll notice:

You’ll notice your team is performing better.

The way you work with your team will produce better results. You’ll have the confidence to effectively handle each challenge that presents itself. Your stress levels will diminish.

You’ll be more influential with people.

You’ll assertively, and increasingly effortlessly, persuade others. You won’t get them off-side like you occasionally used to. With your new strategy, you’ll be much more able to confidently influence others to see your point of view, or take the action you want them to take.

You’ll have many useful tools in your tool kit to manage difficult situations.

No matter what the circumstance, you’ll know which approach to take to give you the best chance of producing the best outcome.

Your emotional intelligence will grow, probably in leaps and bounds.

People will notice you’re not reactive anymore. You’ll take the action that will give you the best opportunity of meeting your short, medium and longer-term targeted outcomes. You’ll confront difficulties, skilfully and professionally. You’ll become highly respected by others.

Your leadership talents will be put to good use.

The gap between your performance and your potential performance will close. Your results will speak for themselves. Many creases will have been ironed out and your new strategies will mean you’re likely to meet your goals.

You’ll develop a reputation for being a very capable performer.

You’ll know where your performance could be further polished and you’ll actively keep polishing.

The uniqueness of my approach:

I have a deep understanding of the world of leaders.

For more than 25 years I’ve been observing and learning about how people in organisations think, feel and behave — and have a very real sense of what they need to do differently to achieve their targeted outcomes.

I have an impressive track record of results.

In more than two decades of corporate human resource development work, the leaders and teams I’ve worked with have made shifts that they, and their organisations, have been thrilled with.

What it’s like to work with me:

I’m results-oriented.

My natural style is to focus on the desired results of the leader I’m working with. When I notice you’re doing something that isn’t supporting you to get the results you’re after, we’ll talk about it. And then you can decide, with a real consciousness around your decision, what result you want and what you’re prepared to do to get it.

I want people to create remarkable relationships with others.

I believe good relationships are critical to your success, and also to your on-going happiness and fulfilment as a human being. We’ll work on having your relationships be the best they can be.

I’m authentic.

I’ll be honest and frank in our discussions. I’ll tell the truth, as I see it. (I think this is one of the most important parts of my job.) Because you know I’m ‘on your side’, I want what’s best for you, you’ll hear my feedback as supportive, helpful and encouraging.

What happens in a Leader Coaching program?

Leader Coaching is designed to support you if you're in a people leadership or functional leadership role and you want to do any of the following:

Enhance your capacity to be a really good leader.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll make remarkable shifts. The leaders I’ve worked with frequently say that having me as their ‘silent partner’ immediately helped them be much more aware of where they’re being effective and where they would benefit by changing their approach.

Grow your emotional intelligence and confront difficulties skilfully and professionally.

Your stress levels will significantly diminish when this happens! When you share your thinking with me, when we discuss your thought processes, you’ll become very aware of what you want to do and need to do to create the results you’re after. Then I help you create those results.

Refine the way you communicate and how influential you are with others.

We’ll remove any blockages that stop you from being as influential as you’d like to be—which pays off in all parts of your life.

Feel confident you can handle pretty much any performance problem that shows up.

When you successfully resolve performance problems, you can put more of your energy into achieving your performance goals.

Progress your team’s performance, and produce better results all round.

Imagine the impact you’ll have on your results when you and each of your team members are truly aligned and on track. Teams that work effectively have a huge impact on the effectiveness of the business.

Have your performance be as high as your potential.

Leaders I work with feel proud of what they’re accomplishing as a result of being coached. I’ll be supporting you to set your sights high — and then work with you to figure out what needs to happen to meet (or exceed) your higher expectations.

What about the logistics of being coached?

We’ll jointly design your coaching program around your needs.

You can feel confident you’ll reach your targeted outcomes — as well as outcomes your organisation will benefit from.

Importantly, you can be assured our discussions have complete confidentiality. I do however encourage you to regularly communicate with your organisational sponsor about what you’re achieving by being coached.

We’ll begin your coaching with a discussion about your needs and your organisation’s needs from coaching.

We’ll determine exactly what results will make both you and your organisation very pleased with the decision to engage me as your coach.

After our initial goal setting discussion, we’ll determine where you’re currently placed compared to your targeted results.

I’ll gather your views, perceptions, thoughts and feelings; have you complete a couple of assessments; and we might get some feedback from others. We’ll use whatever approach will give us a clear view of where our efforts need to be placed in the upcoming months so that your outcomes and the organisation’s outcomes are achieved.

We’ll meet (either face-to-face, on FaceTime or similar, or on the phone)

…twice a month for your regular coaching session.

In each coaching session we’ll focus on doing whatever needs to be done to close the gaps between what’s currently happening and what you want to happen.

We’ll work with your real-life situations. We’ll leverage your existing strengths, add to your repertoire of behaviours, give you more options by adding to your skill base, or figure out a new perspective on something — we’ll do whatever is going to give you the results you and your organisation are after.

We’ll take advantage of occasional between-session telephone conversations, emails, document reviews, etc.

I’m responsive and will attend to your needs in a timely way. (Because I aim to be responsive, I work with only a small number of coachees at any point in time.)

I’ll give you your own Coaching Resource Centre.

This password protected site will give you immediate and convenient 24×7 access to a valuable library of resource documents and materials relevant to your coaching journey.

It’s the norm for organisational sponsorship to support a one-off fee

…(to cover time and costs involved in the initial diagnosis) and a monthly retainer.

Now that you know more about what my Leader Coaching Program will do for you and the logistics of being coached, contact me so we can talk about your needs and how we can make sure they’re met.

Contact Carolyn

“Carolyn taught me the skills necessary to transform from a struggling manager into a strong executive leader.

I learnt not only how to bring out the best in myself, but also how to bring out the best in other individuals in my organisation. The skills I have learnt will now be with me forever, ensuring that I will be a leading contributor in any organisation in the future.”

Thank you Carolyn.”

Senior Manager,
ASX Top 100 Company

“Carolyn, thanks for your time, patience and wisdom. It’s been a joy to work with you. Coaching has (given me) insight into my areas for development (and enabled me) to explore them in a ‘safe’ haven.”

Director,
Pharmaceutical Company

“Before working with Carolyn I struggled to acknowledge the difference between leading and managing—and therefore didn’t understand the aspects of leadership that I needed to develop. Carolyn, you’ve helped me breakthrough the corporate ladder.”

Leader,
Business Process Outsourcing Company

“I came to executive coaching with an ingrained cynicism.

What I discovered over an intensive and enjoyable six-month period of one-to-one meetings was precisely a means to cut through managerial non-sense and position myself for real advances in my career.

The beauty of Carolyn’s approach is the fact it shows you how to confront your own barriers and deal effectively with those put up by others. This has, for me, proved the key to a new and rewarding career.”

Senior Leader,
Health Industry

“Carolyn brings great skill and sophistication to understanding individual leader’s situations.

She’s results oriented and truly helps people be successful.”

Dr Michael Paton, Clinical Director,
North Sydney Central Coast Health Service

“Before working with Carolyn I inappropriately got fired up. I wasn’t managing my emotions well at all. These days, since being coached, my old reputation isn’t holding water. I’m less stressed now and I’m enjoying both my work as well as the relationships that I have with people at work. I’m also much more confident about progressing my career. And I like me more now!”

Senior Marketing Leader,
Global Medical Equipment Company
